Why don't HM Revenue & Customs know my earnings? They sent me the P60 showing my earnings, and now they sent me a form asking me to look on the P60 and fill in some little boxes with the exact same information and send it back to them. What is this, some sort of intelligence test? Just looks like a big waste of time and resources.

HM Revenue & Customs refund email? I was examining my emails that got caught in my spam filter and found an email from HM Revenues claiming I have a tax refund. The email address is securemail@hmrc.gov.uk and the email reads as follows: ---After the last annual calculations of your fiscal activity, we have determined that you are eligible to receive a tax refund of ***** GBP. Please submit the tax refund request and allow us 2-3 days in order to process it. Click Here to submit your tax refund request Note : A refund can be delayed a variety of reasons, for example submitting invalid records or applying after deadline. Best Regards HM Revenue & Customs --- I am unsure about the link or the email in general - the link address is www.cz.etechsol.pk/cp/hmrc/hmrc/refundportal.htm Is this safe to click? Should I click the link? It's not a marketing bot or a virus, is it?
HM Revenue/Customs lost data procedures 'woeful' Is that report accurate? Or what? If 'no', R U a spin doctor? Procedures for handling sensitive data at HM Revenue and Customs are "woefully inadequate", an inquiry has revealed. Staff worked on confidential data without adequate support, training or guidance with a "muddle through" ethos, investigators found. The findings were contained in an Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) report into the loss of CDs holding the personal records of 25 million people. Investigators said no individuals were to blame for the security breach that took place when the CDs were lost in internal post. Instead the Government agency was accused of wholesale failings in "institutional practices and procedures" concerning data. Officials were so ignorant about data security that when the CDs were lost, they simply sent another set from their Tyne and Wear offices. It was three weeks before an employee reported the loss, setting in motion a chain of events that led to a national outcry. The CDs contained a complete record of ... (UK) timescale for claiming tax refund from HM revenue & customs? I've recently noticed that for the previous tax year I've been on the wrong tax code (I've been on BR), so am due a tax refund. I've spoken to HM revenue & customs on the phone, and they've advised me that I need to send my documentation to the tax office with a covering letter, which I intend to send tomorrow. Can anyone who's been in a similar situation give me a rough timescale that I can expect (assuming all documentation is correct)? Thanks!
Opening bank account - what exactly does "HM Revenue & Customs" correspondence entail? I'm currently trying to open a bank account with NatWest. It says to confirm my identity, I need to send something from Table A and Table B. I've got Table B covered, but in table A the only thing that is applicable to me is 'HM Revenue & Customs" correspondence. Now the only thing I can find from the tax office, that i've EVER been sent is my P60 form, and this isn't acceptable as proof of address. What else could I have received from them with my address on it? Alternatively I can go into a branc with my passport, but in doing that I cannot use my water bill, and will still need correspondence form the tax office. Should I call the tax office and have them send me something? To be honest though I really need this account setup sooner rather than later :S help! I tried calling them. The guy told me a P60 would be ok, despite it saying on the letter that a P60 isn't acceptable. The call centre didn't know what they were doing. I suppose the next step is to go into a branch, but as time is sensitive I just wanted to go and sort it, rather than having to go twice. I work full time quite far away from home so it's not easy unless it's a weekend. Thanks though :)

How do I sue HM Revenue and Customs for their recent blunder? Can we form a class action? I am currently upset and fretting about the exposure of my details, and the government is responsible for my state of unease. Like any other entity, they should be sanctioned for this. Outside the polling booth, how can this be achieved? Can we form a class action to sue? Can someone with the time and the technical nouse form an e-petition or website to this end?

Is Sir Hayden Phillips an employee of HM Revenue & Customs? Sir Hayden Phillips GCB is chairman of the National Theatre, Senior Partner at HansonWesthouse and charities consultant to TRH The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall. He is a director of St Just Farms Ltd, of GSL, and an adviser to Englefield Capital. He is chairman of the Salisbury Cathedral Fabric Advisory Committee, chairman of Marlborough College Council and a governor of the Wiltshire Historic Buildings Trust. His previous career was in the Civil Service. He was Permanent Secretary of the Lord Chancellor's Department (now the Department for Constitutional Affairs) from 1998 to 2004, and Permanent Secretary of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport from 1992 to 1998. Before that he held senior positions in the Treasury, the Cabinet Office, the Home Office and in the European Commission. His report on The Review of the Honours System was published in July 2004. He also owes £127m to HMRC, was educated at an illegal oyster farm (where he learned to speak German) and gave Adolf Hitler the legal advice that resulted in the invasion of Polland. Sir Hayden assured Hitler that the British would be using the metric system before the end of the 20th century and no Brit had the balls to challenge the combined intellect of the French backed up with the 'Joy' of German engineering. In conversation before dinner with a few far too polite to refuse Brits a month ago he stated that the Munich air disaster on 6th February 1958 was German reprisal for the firebombing of Dresden and spat on the floor.
Does anybody know the HM Revenue and Customs address for Edimburg? I need it to send forms as I'm leaving the UK for taxback and I've phoned them to have the right address but I defenitely could not understand the accent. I made him repeat twice... but the only thing I could get was : "Saughten(?) House B....... Edimburg E11 3XG" Any idea? Thanks in advance! Edinburgh.. Stale cheque from HM Revenue and Customs? I received a cheque last May from HM Revenue and Customs for a repayment of income tax, for some reason I filed it away and forgot all about it and needless to say when I dug it out today I've noticed that it had to be presented within 6 months. I'm not really sure what to do with it...should I send it back with a letter?
How do I declare money HM Revenue and Customs? (UK)? I just got a letter through the post saying that I'm getting a sum of money into my account but that I have to declare it to Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs...does any one know how to declare money? Thanks.
Why, oh why does HM Revenue and Customs not have email? It's 2007 (very nearly 2008). It's been around for over 20 years. Could it be that it would mean correspondence could be tracked and logged and there could be no excuses for incompetence and delay? I was asked to FAX something yesterday. It's a joke. Hate mail? Junk mail? Not convinced. Look, you can email No. 10. What's so precious about HMRC??? Let them deal with it.
Hello, I need to create a directors report for HM customs and revenue.? 10 days ago a friend recieved a letter from HM Revenue and Customs - Must read this is important!!? She recieved a letter 10 days ago from HM Revenue and Customs stating that someone had fraudulantly tried to sue her information. She was to recieve a letter separately reconfirming her details. This second letter has not been recieved. We are assure that the disks lost 3 WEEKS ago are not being used fraudulantly or are in the hands of criminals. I think this letter tells us a different story. I have urged her to go to the press with this story. The Government is lying to us all again!
HM Revenue and Customs? I live in Canada and am in receipt of a UK retirement pension of sixty pounds a week. As a non -resident should I report this for UK tax purposes and if so how do I go about it ?
HM Revenue and customs? After HM RC lost over 25 benifits records leaving hundreds of thousands of families open to fraud, this labour government is clearly not fit for purpose! New labour is not working! I can no longer feel safe in this country all the time labour is in government, we are being ruled by an unelected idiot (GORDON BROWN!) Who else does not trust this government? I want gordon brown to resign! I know HM RC has nothing to do with gordon brown, but it is his government. His government! which is totaly incapable of leading this country, Mr Brown should go to buckingham palace and call an election!
HM Revenue and Customs Jobs (tax)? i'm wondering what kind of degree you need for it, I know you don't have to have one, but i want to enter higher up, so is it just any degree ir a specific type? thanks :)
Has anyone else had HM revenue and Customs contact them by e-mail this week? Saying that you are due a refund due to overpaying your taxes? So far i've had three, all giving the same amount. Please someone tell me i haven't just been unbelievably rude to someone over a genuine communication? Very red-faced Helen! I'm quite certain it is a scam so please be careful if you do get it. I checked with my accountant and he says i'm not due anything and HMRC always discuss it with him if there is either an over or underpayment. Jess, if i printed it on here you just might be shocked but also amused, i'd also get a violation!
What would you do? - Hm Revenue and customs!!? This Morning my husband recieved some tax information and in the same envelope were a few sheets of paper relating to someone elses tax information dating from 2004 - present, we phoned up and they told us "it must have slipt through" and asked us if we would post it back and unfortunatly we have to pay for it as they do not have a freepost address to send this back to - They also didn't ask the name of the person who's details they have sent us. I am just wondering if anyone could suggest somewhere to complain to as i know how angry i would be if i knew my details had gone walkabout and the tax office didn't seem to care. Thank You
How long does it take on average to receive a tax refund? I have asked for a tax refund almost 3 months ago. HM Revenue & Customs sent me a form to fill in (which I did and returned quickly) and 2 letters asking for more information and documents (I also replied promptly with all the requested information even though I had already given it to them). I am now waiting. How long does it take on average to receive a tax refund?
How should I calculate my gross income for the purposes of deferring my UK student loan payments? I'm in a salary sacrifice scheme at work whereby I can reduce my taxable salary as much as I like in exchange for my employer paying that same amount into my pension scheme. This is effectively an NI and income tax avoidance scheme (although it is legal and sanctioned by HM Revenue & Customs). Each year the Student Loans Company writes to me and gives me the opportunity to defer starting to repay the student loans I took out whilst at university. To do this, I need to demonstrate that I earn less than a certain amount each month. Now, the question is: what does the law say about the way I should calculate the gross income I declare to the Student Loans Company when applying for deferment? I would think it makes sense to follow the principles of filling in a tax return ie to use the figure which goes on my P60 rather than my notional salary before the pension salary sacrifice. Do you have a definitive answer? The amount on my P60 (after someone has done some jiggery-pokery with it) is my gross income for tax purposes. I'm interested in the legal position ie what I'm legally obliged to declare. Thanks
What will happen about my National Insurance underpayment? I had a letter from HM Revenue & Customs saying that I had underpaid my National Insurance for the tax year 2004/05. It was only about £65, but on looking at my P60 for that year, I had worked a full year and earned about £14k, and wondered why my employer had not paid my stamp up in full. I phoned them this afternoon, only to find out that their records show that I only earned £3k that year. On looking at my P60, the "Pay and Income Tax" details show my true earnings, but the NI contributions only show that I earned enough to pay NI of around £245. It looks like my employer left a "1" off the front of my "Earnings above the ET" whatever that means. By my calculations (11% of earnings), that means I now owe nearly £1,300 in unpaid National Insurance contributions. I now only earn a small amount as I am at home looking after my son. How will they go about recovering this from me? Sorry about the long question!
How can i get E301 form as a Self Employed? Hi, I used to work as a Self Employed in the UK but the climate has changed and i would like to go to another country. I have phoned HM REVENUE & CUSTOMS for the E301 form but they said for some reason, i could not get the E301 form. I really do not understand why? If anyone knows anything which could help..... Tax Refund from 'refund.alert.hm@hmrc.gov.uk'? Any ideas that there is really a tax refund in UK ? Recently, I have received several emails from 'refund.alert.hm@hmrc.gov.uk'. However I have a feeling that they are scam emails, so I have not clicked on the link that they provided. I have copied in the message:- After the last annual calculations of your fiscal activity, we have determined that you are eligible to receive a tax refund of 988.50 GBP. Can HMRevenue &Customs Officer tax possessions that I own & that are in my name for a debt in my husbands name? We have had a bad couple of years financially and my husband has struggled to pay his tax bill. My Husband owes about £9000 in tax. He has phoned the tax office many times to explain his situation and they agreed to a payment plan. My husband has been paying off £200 every month which is all we can afford. All of a sudden they have started to get funny and have now sent a letter which we received this morning saying if the rest is not paid in full by the 5th of January then they will start legal proceeding against my husband and will send a office to seize possessions. We have not done any thing wrong my husband has not missed a payment and isn't refusing to pay. He is no longer working self employed and is employed and is paying his normal tax every month of top of the £200 per month instalments. He is going to contact them again on monday to find out why they are doing this and why he can't continue to pay by instalments. He has also written a letter to send to them too. We do not have £9000 to pay off the rest and there is no way we can find £9000 in one week. We can't take out a loan as we have poor credit rating. We are starting to sort out our debts and have managed to pay of most of our debts and can now afford to pay larger instalments each month towards this tax bill. But my question is If they do take legal action and send a HM Revenue & Customs Officer around can they take my possessions that I own and that are in my name. If I have proof that they are in my name and have been paid with my money. Im most concerned about my car. I purchased a new car (not a brand new car) last week as our old car was on it last legs and also we needed a bigger car. I paid with my money and am the registered owner of car. My husband is insured to drive the car but is not the owner. Can they take the car if its in my name. We rely on the car. We have 2 children with special needs one with Autism and one with cerybral palsy. We have to go back to hospital regually for check ups. Also im expecting our 3rd child and am a high risk pregnancy and have to go to hospital every week. The nearest hospital is a 40 minute drive away so we rely heavily on the car and would be very stuck with out it. Any advice would be much appreciated Thanks in advance Thanks for your advice so far. in answer to lightworker response I had to buy a new car as the car we had kept breaking down. And the sun roof was leaking beyond repair. There was so much mildew & mould in car that it was not healthy to use to drive the children around. We needed some thing reliable to get are children to there hospital appointments. Like I said before I did not buy a brand new car. Its a second hand car that only cost me £900 so its not like I spent thousands. A car is essential to us. Also we did not get in to debt by not acting resposibly. We did not ask or want to get in to so much debt it just happend. 3 years ago we did not have any debt my husband started a new job but one month after he started they told him they had found some one else who would work for less money and told him to leave. It took him many months to find more work. And whilst he was out of work we had to take out loans and use credit cards to pay the bills to keep a roof over ours & our sons head. we did what we thought was right at the time. once my husband had found new work we started paying off the debts off as quickly as we could. But unfortunatly we had to use some of the money that we had ment to use to pay off the tax to pay other debts. Stupid I know but again we did what we thought was right at the time. We have now cleared most of are other debts and this is the main one left. We are not refusing to pay it and are trying to pay what we can afford each month. When I posted this question I was asking for advice. I was not asking for coments and rudence about our situation. It is easy for people who have never been in debt to coment and say how stupid people in debt are but you have to have been there to really understand.
Alcohol / Cigarette 'Day Trip' On Eurostar - What Is The Latest Situation / Customs? After reading of horror stories of HM Revenue & Customs confiscating peoples cars etc after shopping for discounted goods from France, I want to know if it would be possible to do something like this using Eurostar. Would security at Brussels refuse such a bag? I plan to stay within the Customs 'guidelines' and not exceed Eurostar luggage limits, (which currently are none for weight or liquid amounts.) Surely it is not their job to act as customs officials. So do you think that I could take back uninterrupted 'as much as I could carry?' - Also roughly how much do you think that would be? (I am medium built.) Thanks!
When was PAYE Deadline for Remittances to HM Revenue & Customs to be paid by the 19 Day of each month enacted? I would like to find out the PAYE Regulations on Statutory Instrument, e.g Act of Parliament where the DEADLINE for PAYE Remittances to be paid to the Revenue was set "In Stone", which requires organisations to remit the Income Tax , National Insurance & Other Deductions for employees to the Inland Revenue to pay the Deductions by the 19th of each month. When was it enacted or put in to a Regulatory Statutory Instrument? Can you also please highlight, which regulation or Act of Parliament is it included in plus the Section of the Act or Regulation which is applicable?
Do you feel you can trust HM Government with your personal details? I was just reading an artical about the HM Revenue and Customs had lost either 7 million or 15 million personal including bank details on 2 CDs. I feel that the UK has gone down the pan so much i am considering emigrating from this sh!thole that the government have created. Can you trust them? I really can't. Nicely said Hobbit!
How is import tax/ customs duty paid in the U.K? I have just bought abroad, am I expected to contact HM revenue & customs or will I be informed to pay the amount when the item is delivered on my door step? No I already knew that. The place is Hong Kong.
The big gender question: why women get paid less than men? How does this work...my partner and I are both student and work part-time for Somerfield LTD. The problem isn’t that he earns more them me, it’s that HM REVENUE & CUSTOMS have said he can earn more than me before having to pay tax... so WHY is it different if we work the same hour at the same job?
Is Morrisons in the Public Sector or Private sector? Fedex Invoice for customs tax (US to UK)? I recently purchased an item from the US for delivery within the UK. However 2 weeks after receiving delivery, I had an invoice come through from FedEx asking for the HM Revenue and Customs charge that was applicable. Has anyone else had this before whereby people have paid a shipping charge and still had to pay an import tax on top? If I just ignore it are they likely to chase it up or just write it off
How can I track my UK tax refund? I made a claim for a tax refund back in June with HM revenue & customs, they then sent me a form in which I had to detail my previous employers, I sent this back immediately but am still waiting to hear anything more? I'm definately due tax-back but am unable to find anywhere (website? HMRC have no facility) to track this claim? - To see if it has yet been issued? Many thanks..
Could you check my mistakes (grammar and language)? Pleassseeeeeeeeeeeee? "Professional help Each owner of the business have to think carefully about the future. From the owner perspective, the legal obligations and rights affecting business sometime are difficult to understand. There are many companies which can offer professional support to businesses. It is important to employ an accountant, solicitor or business consultant with an in-depth knowledge to make sure that the business is secured in the future and meet all regulations. There are many people who want to share their experience for a fee. However, it is expensive but it may be helpful in expanding the business and developing future options. Business consultants are highly skilled and they are providing individual solutions for each client. They able to help with: • practical advice • ideas for reducing expenses • how to develop and expand • any other general business problem As I mentioned in first part of my report, before starting my own business I would like to contact with highly skilled business consultants to cover lacks in my experience. It gives me idea and some useful advice about running own business. The professional support will be able to have a look my business ideas and tell something more about it - Is it worth doing? I also will be need professional help in the future. If my business grow-up I may need accountant to deal with HM Revenue & Custom and solicitor to make sure that my business meets all legal regulations such as: health and safety regulations, and different food industry regulations such as food hygiene etc. " "Training The business may need to train workers if there have been changes in the company’ goals or objectives or an introduction of new process. Training involves employees being taught new skills or improving skills they already have. Training staff in the future will be essential to make sure that my employees have a good qualifications and ability to do their job. Well trained workforce has certain benefits for each business. They should be more productivity. This will help the business to achieve its overall aims, such as boosting sales, keeping customer happy etc. Training should also help me to create more flexible workforce because of grater employee skills. For example if the business needs to reorganise something and some employees must replace another ones, workers may have to be trained in new tasks/responsibilities. Training staff cost a lot of money but it leads to better performance in the future. Increasing the skills levels in the business is beneficial. If you identify any lacks in skills in your business you can provide training to your employees to fill all lacks in skills. Skills development will increase employees’ confident. Training staff to work more effectively or more efficiently can rapidly increase their productivity as well as increasing the business’s profit. Skilled employees have a wider rang of skills and they are able to work in different area of the business. For example trained worker with experience will be able to replace someone in the future if this person will we get retied. Training might be provided by business consultants or may be taken at local colleges (e.g. Bolton Community college which offers a wide range NVQ’s)" "Timescales and planning Planning involves thinking about the future direction of the business as well as identifying the strategies and skills required to achieve goals. It is very important to set time scales because it will help to monitor own and business’s development to make sure that it stays on the right way." "Cost implications Businesses faced with financial problem may see spending on training and development as a luxury which has to be cut. Businesses often think that training lead to increased costs, wasted time, disruption. Financial costs might include the wage allowance paid to employee, fees for training at local college, equipment and travel allowances. To some extent these costs are offset by government payments for training schemes paid to the employer. It is mainly dedicated to small and medium businesses. Financial support is offered to boost workers’ skills, with the specific aim of improving productivity. The Government thinks that will help hundreds of thousands of people to get skills which are proved to pay back to the companies they work for." I know that it is quite long so if you don't have a time could you just check a part of it? Thank you :)
if i dont have a consent order do i have to pay stamp duty? I am going thru a divorce & have reached an agreement with husband over property. My solicitor says if I dont go to court to with a consent order and allow a judge to see what we have agreed (a judge can overturn any agreement if they do not think its fair despite what the couple have agreed) then I will have to pay stamp duty when the property is transferred into my sole name (no money is changing hands). HM Revenue & Customs say I do not pay stamp duty if a divorce is going thru but did not seem to understand about the Consent Order. (A Consent Order is a document stamped by the court if approved to stop a partner coming back after a divorce, say for example if you have a lottery win. With a CO in place a former spouse is entitled to half. Any comments welcome.
Employment history? I'm trying to build my first proper CV and I'm having trouble remembering dates, etc. Some of the places I've worked in the past have closed down and are no longer in business. Is it possible for me to get access to my employment history records like I can access my credit history report? Would the HM Revenue & Customs do this or someone else maybe?
Where to invest my £250 child trust fund money? Hi, this morning I received the £250 Child Trust Fund money for my little boy from HM Revenue and Customs. Obviously, I want to put it away for him in a decent account- but what sort of account shall I set up for him? I don't want any risks of losing it, so any very high rate accounts that have the potential to lose money- i'm not interested in. I'd also like to keep it "locked" until he's 21 as he'll hopefully be more mature and respectful with the money than say if it's released when he's 18. I also plan to put away an additional £100 a month into the account. Any ideas- which banks and types of savings accounts would be most appreciated. ADDITIONAL: I dont want to risk the investment at all so stocks are out!
Working tax credits? can someone please post the link to the working tax credits application / claim form. I have been looking on the HM Revenue & Customs web site but cannont find it. Many thanks
Can I complain to the Parliamentary Commissioner (ombudsman) if I live in Glasgow? It's about HM Revenue and Customs...do I have to go to the Scottish one? Is HM Revenue and Customs part of delegated legislation?? I know I need to write to my MP first and he passes it on to the Commissioner but what I want to know is if my problem can be dealt with by the Parliamentary Commissioner or is there a separate one for Scotland? thanks

Is this the way to deal with incompetance? Seven sets of sensitive data have been lost by HM Revenue & Customs, the agency's acting head admitted yesterday. David Hartnett revealed that in one case, confidential waste had literally fallen off the back of a lorry. He added that despite the agency's mistakes, its senior bosses were paid around £10million in bonuses last year

So now I am here I need to get it as soon as possible. Thanks Hey "mamapeapod" thanks great help, but I´m not looking for any money from the state, I just want to get work, without this E301 they say they can`t help me find work! I have always worked self employed in the UK and up to date with all nic and income tax.... help again please....
If you thought the 2 missing HMRC CDs was special? HM Revenue and Customs require investment fund managers in the City of London to mail personal data on their clients on unencrypted computer disks. HMRC says encrypting the data would be a "recipe for chaos" as it would not be practical to unscramble such information from thousands of different financial institutions. Words fail me and I've been in IT for over 20 years...................
Self-employed, want to pay the national insurance contributions. Will a simple notebook suffice? I've been self-employed since May 2004. I haven't registered with HM Revenue and Customs yet, but I'll do that next week ( I know they can fine me £100 for late registration). Now, since my earnings are so meager (I do small, casual translation jobs), my earnings do not exceed £3000 every year (and I have no other income at all - I get supported by my parents). I understand, that I am not liable to pay any tax BUT I'll have to pay the national insurance contributions. Can someone advice what would they be and how much should I expect to pay for the past 3 years? I really can't hire an accountant to do this job for me, because I don't have much money. I understand that I'll have to fill in a self-assessment form (IS IT ALLOWED TO BACKDATE IT 3 YEARS???), and when it comes to evidence of my income (I only accepted cach), I only kept a small notebook where I wrote down all income (but I didn't bother to keep track of my expenditures, receipts etc.). Is a handwritten notebook acceptable? By a 'handwritten notebook' I mean, a notebook where I've kept all the records of the cash income I've ever received (from May 2004), for instance: May 21, 2004 (Friday): a translation (Italian-English, 2 pages) to Mrs X.Y. Payment by cash received: £40 Will such notebook be accepted by the taxman when they ask for the evidence of the income for the past 3 years? Also, how do I obtain the Small Earnings Exemption Certificate and how will it aid me? I understand that I can only get this certificate for the last tax year (isn't it?), and not for the previous 3 years. Thanks G! I'm quite surprised though that I won't be able to pay any taxes or national insurance contributions for the years 04/05; 05/06. What do I do about that, because I need evidence that I've been self-employed in this country for the past 3 years. So if I'm not allowed to pay taxes or NI contributions for the previous 2 years, then what's the solution? I don't want to have gaps in my tax record later on in life, and I desperately need to fill it in. Do you think paying the voluntary National Insurance (Category 3) contributions would come in handy in this situation?
